SYCAMORE - George Martin Harter, 83, of Sycamore, passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 17, 2024. He was born in Allendale on November 7, 1940, to the late Cecil Wyman Harter and Doris Brabham Harter.

George was a proud man known for the love of his family especially his grandchildren. He attended Sycamore Baptist Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, cooking, spending time with friends and watching his granddaughters play sports.

George served in the National Guard. He dedicated 30 years to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources as a Game Warden earning the honor of National Officer of the Year in 1986. He also served as a noncommissioned U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Officer.

He is survived by his children, Mary Ann Westendorf (Chad) and Stephen Harter (Emily); and his grandchildren, Sophie Westendorf and Langley Harter. Also, he is survived by his siblings: Joe Harter (Debbie), Bobby Priester (Johnny), Janice Smith (Ricky), Phyllis Harvey (Buck), and Eula Sineath. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Pasty Harter.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale. A visitation will follow at the cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Hospice or the American Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
