HEALING SPRINGS - Gene Willis Elkins, 87, of Healing Springs, S.C. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2026 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, S.C. with military honors accorded and Reverend Jeffrey Ray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will be held at 1 o’clock p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery, Hillsville, VA. Memorial contributions may be given in Gene’s memory to Healing Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 394, Barnwell, S.C. 29812.

Born in Barnwell, S.C., he was a son of the late Freddie Anderson Elkins and Mary Olive Stevenson Elkins and was married to the late Corine Ingole Elkins. He earned a master’s in education from Radford College and retired from Carroll County School System after teaching for a number of years. Gene was a member of Hillsville Christian Church and attended Healing Springs Baptist Church. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served for 10 years.

Survivors include his son, Scottie Wayne “Scott” (Shelby Sue) Elkins of Healing Springs; a daughter, Debra Ann “Debbie” Moore of Kansas; his loving companion, Cornelia Dixon; grandchildren, Anthony Elkins, Cassie, Michael, Tia and Patrick; a great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Elkins; a sister, Jeanette (Bob) Bomar of Williston; a brother, Jimmy O. (Denise) Elkins of Williston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtle Faglier and Elizabeth “Lib” (Bill) Faulkner; and a brother, Freddie Allen (Mayblane) Elkins.
