Edward and Jennie Lemon of Barnwell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 17, 2025.
The Lemons are teenage sweethearts who started dating when Edward was 15 and Jennie was 14. They were married on May 17, 1975, when he was 20 and she was 19.
Dr. Lemon served nearly 22 years as the mayor of the City of Barnwell until 2018 and also operated an optometrist office in Barnwell for 35 years before selling it in 2019. Mrs. Lemon is a retired math teacher at Guinyard-Butler Middle School in Barnwell.
Dr. and Mrs. Lemon have three children and five grandchildren: Nancy & Matt Carney of Johns Island (Rosalee & Gabe), Edward & Ashlee Lemon of Barnwell (Edward Baker & Lucy), and Will & Stefani Lemon of Barnwell (Layla).
The couple live in their hometown of Barnwell where they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
