Celebrating grandparents across Barnwell County School District

Posted

Grandparents play a powerful role in the lives of children. They are encouragers, cheerleaders, wisdom-sharers, and steady sources of love. In Barnwell County School District (BCSD), we recognize that grandparents not only support their own families, but also strengthen our entire community. That’s why schools across the county have found special ways to celebrate Grandparents’ Day this year.

Across Barnwell County School District, each of our primary and elementary schools found unique ways to celebrate the special role grandparents play in the lives of children. Some schools hosted breakfasts, others organized lunches or evening events, and some focused on classroom activities with the shared purpose of honoring grandparents.

At Barnwell Elementary School, grandparents joined their grandchildren for a hot breakfast this past Friday before visiting the school’s Book Fair together. Kelly Edwards Elementary hosted a spaghetti lunch on Monday, giving grandparents the chance to spend time in the cafeteria with students and catch a glimpse of their school day. Barnwell Primary School is planning an evening of fun and games on September 18th, designed for families to enjoy quality time together. Meanwhile, Macedonia Elementary/Middle School has been celebrating by weaving special lessons into the classroom, where students reflect on and honor their grandparents.

Though the details of each event may be different, the spirit behind them is shared across every school community. No matter the format—breakfast, lunch, classroom activity, or evening event—one theme remains constant: our schools are committed to celebrating the love, wisdom, and joy that grandparents bring to our children’s lives.

Barnwell County School District deeply values its grandparents. Their influence is woven into the daily lives of our children. As a district, we take pride in these celebrations because they reflect what we believe: the strong bonds between home and school are so important to the work being done in our schools every day. We hope that all of our grandparents across Barnwell County felt appreciated and honored on Grandparents’ Day, and we thank them for the many ways they inspire and support the next generation.
