BARNWELL - Betty Hammett Sargent Bannister, 83, of Barnwell, S.C. passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 o’clock p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2026 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, S.C. with McCrae Carroll speaking. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday.
Born in Barnwell County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Eugene Hammett and Corrie Mae Grubbs Hammett. She was formerly married to William Bannister and was first married to the late Roy L. Sargent. She was a loving mother, “Nannie”, and was the Head of the Grandmother’s Club. She was the best cook a neighborhood could have.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Marty Carroll of Barnwell, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Amanda Bannister of Beaufort, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Sargent of Barnwell, S.C.; special sons, Kevin (Amber) Gillam, Ben (Beverlee) Johnson and Jamie (Angie) Hammett; grandchildren, Ty (Hannah) Carroll, McCrae (Carson) Carroll, Hannah (Joey) Kitchings, Jasmine Bannister and Draven Bannister; great-grandchildren, Rowen Kitchings, Sunnie Carroll, Kallie Kitchings, Eliza Carroll, and Doodle Carroll who is “on the way”; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rickey Sargent; and her brothers, Willie Hammett and Dwayne Hammett.
