MT. PLEASANT - Brenda Russell Brandenburg Lemon, 81, of St. Matthews and Barnwell, S.C., and most recently, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., was born January 12, 1943, to Vivian Allen and Charles (Jack) Hampton Brandenburg of St. Matthews, S.C. She was married for 58 years to Clinton Calhoun Lemon Jr. and they had three wonderful children, Clinton Calhoun Lemon III, Brian Allen Lemon and Charlotte Suzanne Lemon.

Brenda graduated from Barnwell public schools, lettered in basketball, played clarinet in the concert band and was a majorette in the marching band. In the fall of 1962, Brenda, Clinton and "little Clint" moved to Clemson, S.C. where Clinton earned a Bachelor of Science degree and Brenda attended Anderson College. The trio relocated to Philadelphia in 1967 where Brenda gave birth to son Brian Allen. The expanded family moved to Greenville, S.C. in 1969, where Charlotte Suzanne was born. In 1970, the young Lemons resettled in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. where countless lifelong friendships began. In 1980, Clinton, Brenda, Brian and Charlotte returned to Barnwell. In April 2024, she traveled to Germany and Prague on her bucket list trip including visiting the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with her children and their spouses.

Brenda was a vibrant person who had an infectious smile and laugh. She was a ray of light that brought joy to those in her orbit. Brenda never met a stranger. As a homemaker she was involved in every facet of her children’s lives attending all sporting events, recitals, and special occasions. When they became adults, Brenda traveled to visit them in their homes to maintain the incredible connection she nurtured. Holidays were always in Brenda’s home as she used her flair for design and décor to create delicious, traditional, family favorites and amazing tablescapes, mantles, bedrooms, and living areas to show her love. Brenda was truly a talented designer who shared her skills when arranging flowers, furniture, and artwork in the homes of her children, clubs, and events where she was involved. Brenda could cut a rug on the dance floor and had a delightful voice too. Brenda had a knack for telling stories and even though they were often exaggerated, the hilarity made you want to hear them again and again. Brenda Brandenburg Lemon was a woman filled with love and laughter.

She is survived by her three children: Clint (Camille Smart), Brian (Shawna Cannon) and Charlotte; three grandchildren: Claudia Cannon Lemon, William Grayson Lemon and Nicholas Allen Lemon; and two nieces: Debra Turner Robinson and Kim Turner Jester. She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Calhoun Lemon Jr., her sister, Vivian Brandenburg Turner; brother, Charles Hampton Brandenburg Jr.; and her parents.
